SPSS

SPSS is a statistical analysis program that produces descriptive statistics, complex statistical analysis, tabulated reports and plots of distribution and trends. You can run SPSS on beluga, narwhal,orca and rorqual. Unix (AIX) version of SPSS is 6.1 and the following components are icensed: Frontend, Base, Pro Stats, Advanced Stats, Tables, Trends, Categories.

You can start a SPSS session using one of the following commands:

spss +m (in a text-based environment)

spss (in an X_Windows environment^(*))

Installation of Windows Version:

SPSS 15 includes Base, Advanced Models ve Regression Models. You can download CDISO image of SPSS 15 Windows from:

ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/spss15windows.

After extracting this iso image to a CD or folder; you should run setup for SPSS 15 Windows and select "Network License" option at the beginning. In the dialog windows asks for "License Manager"

should be entered as IP address of the license server. This is sufficient for the software to get license.

In case of any problem, and if there is such file at the program installation directory (this is usually "C:\Program Files\SPSS"); you may check spssprod.inf file and be sure that the line with the expression "DaemonHost" is in the form DaemonHost=144.122.202.4

Frequently Asked Questions About SPSS

Q: I am running out of disc space because of the files that are automatically created whenever I run the software and/or the output files that I myself have created, can you increase my quota limits?
A: We have created a directory named "/temp" on central servers systems (such as beluga, orca, narwhal, rorqual); so that our users can execute and work with oversize files without experiencing disc space problems. By creating another directory within the "/temp" folder, you can carry out tasks and perform your operations. To create another directory within "/temp" folder, use the following command: "mkdir directory_name". You should be mindful of the fact that other users may also need space within this folder; so, after you are done with your work, do not forget to delete all the files you have created in the folder.

Q: When I run the software on the server systems, I cannot type any values on the keyboard. How do I remedy this problem?
A: The only thing you have to do is to disable the "NumLock" key on the keyboard.
