Autodesk Inventor is a 3D parametric solid modeling software; AutoCAD is a customizable environment, database and toolset for 2D and 3D design and drafting. Architects, engineers, drafters and other professionals involved with design, use AutoCAD, to create, view, manage, plot or output, share and reuse accurate and information-rich drawings. Autodesk Inventor 2009 Professional package contains AutoCAD Mechanical 2009. Autodesk Inventor Professional 2009 Setup: To install Autodesk Inventor 2009 software you can borrow DVDs from the CC Library or download DVD contents (ISO files or single Installation Directory containing 4 DVD's)from: ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/Autodesk/Autodesk_Inventor_2009. 1- DVD automatically starts the setup interface and/or you can run setup.exe in the DVD1 to start the setup 2- Click "install products" and select software components you need. 3-Use serial.txt file in the Autodesk_Inventor_2009 directory in ftp.cc. to enter the serial number and proceed. 4- At the right side of each main component you have selected to install (like Autodesk Inventor 2009); you will see "Configure" button, open configuration window by clicking it. 5- In this window, select "Network License", "Single License Server" and enter ccntserver.cc.metu.edu.tr as the name of the server. Click next to do further customization. After finishing these click "Configuration Complete" 6- Repeat step 5 for other main components (like AutoCAD Mechanical 2009). 7- Click "Install" button at the bottom of setup windows to complete the setup. During the installation Setup may ask you to change DVD's, depending on the software components selected and customizations made previously. Notice: Users who would connect to the FTP licensed software site with a browser shall write ftp://user_name@ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr to the address line ("user_name" is your METU username). We recommend to write the ftp address to Windows Explorer's address bar to access ftp.cc. This enables downloading directories with subdirectories and files by usual copy paste commands. Due to the license agreements that are made, this site is accessible to METU personnel only. Autocad 2005 Setup: To install Autocad 2005 software, DVDs and CDs should be taken from the CC Library which include "Autocad Mechanical 2005" software. Direct installation is available from the DVD; for CD installation, the contents of the both CDs shall be copied to a directory on the hard disk. The content of the DVD can be downloaded from the following address as well: ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/Autodesk/AutoCAD_Mechanical_2005 In order to install the software, clicking on the "Metucc" icon on the main directory is sufficient. When the software is installed, both Autocad 2005 and Autocad Mechanical 2005 are installed. The software that is to be run should be chosen from the Start menu. Autodesk Inventor Setup: Autodesk Inventor is a type of software that runs on 3D Parametrical, layer model format. Corresponding software can be named as CATIA and PRO-E. To setup the software, the "setup.exe" file in the main directory of the CD, which is borrowed from the CC library, should be started and from the screen that appears, "Step 3 Install" -->"Autodesk Inventor Professional 9" option should be selected. During the setup process, "Network License" option should be chosen as an answer to the Setup Form question. Other questions can be answered as desired. After the setup is finished, the question "Specify License Server", that appears on the screen when the software is first run shall be answered as "ccntserver.cc.metu.edu.tr". The software CDs may be borrowed from the CC Library, CDs are also available at ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/Autodesk/Autodesk_Inventor and ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/Autodesk/Autodesk_Inventor_Modules. Notice: Users, who would connect to the FTP licensed software site with a browser other than Internet Explorer, shall write ftp://user_name@ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr to the address line. Autocad 2000 Setup: In order to use the AutoCAD software, you should enter the following command 144.122.202.4 ccntserver #PRE in the "lmhosts.sam" and/or "hosts.sam" and/or "hosts" files which are available in one of the following directories (you will find one of these directories according to your current operating system) ; "\Windows", "\Windows\system32\drivers\etc" or "\Winnt\system32\drivers\etc". After this step you must restart your PC. Please DO NOT copy the line above directly from here. You had better write it once more. (Before writing #PRE, please remember to leave a blank space with "tab" key, not with "space" key). In the "value" section, the user should write CCNTSERVER. If Windows 2000 or XP users, after installing Autocad 2000 software on their computers, receive the following error message;
"FATAL ERROR: Security system hardware lock or network licence is not functioning or is improperly installed"
they should change the "adesksys.dll" file that is found in the directory where Autocad 2000 software was installed with the file available as with the same file name in the following address;

A: METU is bound by the restrictions which are arranged and specified expressly in the terms of software license agreements. According to these agreements, the licensed software can only be used solely for academic purposes and strictly within the boundaries of METU.
