SPSS

SPSS is a statistical analysis program that produces descriptive statistics, complex statistical analysis, tabulated reports and plots of distribution and trends.

SPSS 20 Windows:

SPSS 20 is backward compatible with previous versions like 18 and 15 and works with the files created by these. SPSS 20 consists of Base, Advanced Models ve Regression Models modules, and the analysis tools contained by them. The AMOS software and installation for MacOS operating system in the DVD are not licensed and not available. SPSS can be run only in METU Campus Network as a requirement of the network licensing agreement.

Installation of Windows Version:

You can download DVDISO images of SPSS 20 (named SPSS20_Win32.ISO  (for 32 bit Windows) or SPSS20_Win64.ISO (for 64 bit Windows ) from:

After extracting this iso image to a DVD or folder; you should run setup for SPSS 20 Windows and select "Network License" option at the beginning. For the dialog window that asks for "License Manager"

license.cc.metu.edu.tr

should be entered as the name of the license server.

Note: SPSS 20 license will be available after 15 September 2011. Before that date SPSS 18 can be installed and used with the same installation instructions. 

In case of any problem, and if there is such file at the program installation directory (this is usually "C:\Program Files\SPSS" or "C:\Program Files\IBM\SPSS\Statistics\20"); you may check spssprod.inf file and be sure that the line with the expression "DaemonHost" is in the form DaemonHost=license.cc.metu.edu.tr

SPSS on Unix:

SPSS Unix software service will be discontinued by the 30th of September 2010. Windows version of SPSS will be available.

Frequently Asked Questions About SPSS

Q: Can I use SPSS 15?

A: No, the software is upgraded to IBM SPSS 18 and due to the license agreement and technical requirements of new license manage, SPSS 18 should be installed. SPSS 18 is backward compatible with SPSS 15 files.

Q: I am running out of disc space because of the files that are automatically created whenever I run the software and/or the output files that I myself have created, can you increase my quota limits?
A: We have created a directory named "/temp" on central servers systems (such as beluga, orca, narwhal, rorqual); so that our users can execute and work with oversize files without experiencing disc space problems. By creating another directory within the "/temp" folder, you can carry out tasks and perform your operations. To create another directory within "/temp" folder, use the following command: "mkdir directory_name". You should be mindful of the fact that other users may also need space within this folder; so, after you are done with your work, do not forget to delete all the files you have created in the folder.

Q: When I run the software on the server systems, I cannot type any values on the keyboard. How do I remedy this problem?
A: The only thing you have to do is to disable the "NumLock" key on the keyboard.
