JAWS

JAWS is a powerful accessibility solution developed by Freedom Scientific. that reads information on the screen using synthesized speech. JAWS provides many useful commands that make it easier to use programs, edit documents, and read Web pages.

JAWS® Windows provides access for popular software and Internet  by its speech technology  compatible with Windows operating system. Connect Outloud reads web pages and  converts to Braille alphabet, provides reading, sending and receiving e-mail. MAGic is a screen magnifiying tool for people with low vision. It can magnify the output on the screen to 16 times and  read the information simultaneously. OpenBook scans the printed documents and converts them to digital  ones and transfers to computer environment to enable individuals to read and edit  them.

Jaws 12.0 Setup

Jaws 12 is avaliable at

Please see the page Ftp.cc'den Yazılım İndirme (Turkish) for help about downloading folders from ftp site.

Download the Jaws12 folder from ftp.cc and click setup.exe in this folder to start installation. In the installation dialog windows, select Jaws Screen Reader and then Jaws Setup. Complete the setup with default options. After the installation is completed, a system restart may be required.

Before first run

Right Click My Computer (or Computer in Windows 7) and then click -> System Properties -> Advanced (or Advanced System Settings in Windows 7) -> Environment Variables -> System Variables -> New 

Enter the following values:

Variable name LSFORCEHOST

Variable value ccntserver.cc.metu.edu.tr 

and then click OK

Notice: Users who would connect to the FTP licensed software site with a browser other than Internet Explorer, shall write ftp://user_name@ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr to the address line. Due to the license agreements, this site is accessible to METU personnel only.
