Turnitin, is a web-based plagiarism detection software. Please send an e-mail to swadmin Instructors or other academic staff can examine the existence of any possible elements of plagiarism by uploading their or their students' papers/homework to Turnitin web site. This is done by a special algorithm of Turnitin software which uses the following sources for comparison: current or archived web pages, online commercial and scientific journal databases, online and printed books, and millions of papers and homework previously uploaded to Turnitin by its users. More information, a brochure and seminar handout are available at the following pages: http://www.turnitin.com/static/training.html (English) http://www.bidb.odtu.edu.tr/filesTR/usg/turnitin_brosur.pdf (A brief instruction manual in Turkish, prepared by Instructional Technology Support Office) http://www.bidb.odtu.edu.tr/filesTR/usg/turnitinhandout.pdf (Seminar handout in Turkish, prepared by Instructional Technology Support Office) Turnitin plagiarism detection service is purchased primarily for checking theses, books, papers which are written for to be published in academic journals and other papers which are considered to be publishable. This priority is a result of limited number of users (number of students which can be registered to upload papers) designated by the license agreement. Our academic users who plan to use this service for themselves and their students within the scope mentioned above, can contact to Metu Computer Center by sending an e-mail to swadmin
Important Notice: When uploading papers to the Turnitin system for plagiarism control, Instructors should specify the name and surname of the student/author completely and correctly. This is critical because when same article is re-checked by another user or institution in Turnitin, this previously uploaded version without any name information may give a %100 percent match with the article and this second controller may fail to realize that this match is because of same author’s same article. The article may be considered as a copy of another article.
