SAS

SAS (Statistical Analysis System) is a statistical analysis software. METU has licensed SAS Windows by the year 2009.

SAS Academic Analysis Suite is the licensed software package. This package and some other additional components available are as follows:

SAS Windows 9.2 is the latest version available and is compatible with recent Windows operating systems, including Windows 7. Existing license file renews the expired license for the previous version 9.1.3 but does not allow new installations of it.

SAS Windows Installation

1- Before starting the installation, the latest Java Runtime Environment should be installed on the computer. This can be done by installing the software from http://www.java.com. To install SAS 9.2,  15 GB free disk space is needed for downloading the setup source, and 6 GB for the installation (total 22 GB).

2- There are no DVD's of the software. Installation directory "SAS Software Depot" should be downloaded from ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/Sas/sas92 (15 GB). setup.exe file should be located and run after whole directory is downloaded to the computer.

Please see the page Ftp.cc'den Yazılım İndirme (Turkish) for help about downloading from ftp site.

4- In the following steps select the second option among the three which is "Install SAS Foundation and Related Software".

5- In the following step, select additional software components you want by checking items under the list "SAS Foundation and Related Software" or remove unnecessary one from setup by un-checking them.

6- In the following step, the list also allows to remove some additional sub-components from the setup.

7- In the following window, license file will automatically located by the setup within the installation directory. If there will be a problem about this file please check ftp.cc. sas license file, get the newest license file there and show it to the setup at this step.

8- Select Turkish and English (and other desired ones) in language support options.

9- Select  "The recommended Java Runtime Environment" in the next step.

10- Setup may ask for a restart in the following step. After the restart, setup will resume, if not please run setup.exe again, setup will resume the last step.

11- If the setup returns error messages about Java or other components click "yes" or "continue".

12- After the setup is completed there will be a window reporting the list of installed software.

Renewing Expired SAS Windows License:

Sas Windows performs the license check by a local license file stored in the PC that runs the software and this file should be replaced when its expiration date is close or passed. For this reason when the expiration date is close users should log on to

ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/Sas/sas_windows_license_files  with their METU usernames and passwords and download the new license file in this directory to their PC's (the file is in a name format like sas9***.txt).

After this, run sasrenew.exe file at C:\Program Files\SAS\SAS 9.1\core\sasinst\sasrenew or click on the "Renew SAS Software" button in Start Menu ->SAS -> SAS 9.1 Utilities menu . In the dialog box window, click"browse"; locate and point new license file downloaded and click "next". Then by clicking "OK", "Next" and "Renew" buttons, new license will be processed. Usually new license is valid until the 31th of December in every year. There is an automatically activated 3 months grace period (allows to use the software until the end of March) for this expiration.

SAS Unix/AIX

License of SAS (Unix/Aix) version had expired by the end of 2008 and replaced by SAS Windows. By means of a temporary extension of the license for transition process, SAS (Unix/Aix) will be available on servers until 1st of March 2009.
