Abbyy FineReader

Abbyy FineReader software converts the printed documents into digital formats after scanning and converts files in format's like jpeg, bmp  and pdf into editable text document files (like .txt and .doc (word)). The software supports Turkish language along with 186 languages and has a Turkish dictionary (for spell-check). Abbyy can be run in METU network with 5 concurrent licenses.

ABBYY FineReader 10.0 Corporate Edition Installation

Software setup is located in the metuabbyy10 directory and this directory can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.cc.metu.edu.tr/PackagePrograms/Abbyy  To download this directory by ftp; do not use Internet Explorer or Firefox. Copy this address to the address bar of My Computer (or Computer) window, press enter, and type your METU user name and password when ftp.cc login screen appears. Then download the metuabbyy10 directory to your computer by copy and paste commands.

change_hosts_license.bat batch file in the hosts_batch folder in metuabbyy10 should be right clicked in Windows 7 and Vista. Select "Run as administrator" ("Yönetici olarak çalıştır") and run the file. In Windows XP directly double click and run the file.   

Run "setup.exe" in metuabbyy10 folder and start installation. After using options for personal customizations or selecting default options installation will be completed. The software will get license from the server named "license" (license.cc.metu.edu.tr), the license server information is embedded into the setup by Metucc.

The computer running Abby should be connected to METU network and receive license from the network license server to run properly. 

ABBYY FineReader 7.0 Installation

To set up the software, the abbyyinstall.bat file should be downloaded (please use your METU username and password for this ftp.cc link) and run. Since the setup is performed via the network, the software CDs are not available in the CC Library or the Licensed Software FTP Service. The questions during the setup can be answered according to personal choices and the setup will be finished.

During the installation in Windows 7, when additional username and password is required for network installation, metuabby should be entered both for username and password.

To be able to run the program properly, the abbyy.bat file should be downloaded and copied within the folder in which the program is set. After that, you can create a shortcut of the abbyy.bat file on your desktop and run Abbbyy by double clicking on it.

Notice: Due to the license agreements that are made, the files mentioned above are open to METU personnel only and the use of the software is restricted to METU campus and computers.
